82nd Street Academics seeks Teaching Assistant instructors for our Pre-School Program in Queens, NY. The participants in the program are a maximum of 15 students ranging in age from 2 to 4 years old. Our program aims to provide the academic and social support needed to help students develop the skills required to successfully lay a foundation for a college education. We achieve these goals by providing a holistic program that includes early childhood approaches to academic material and social-emotional growth. 
The hours of these positions are Monday- Friday 7:30 AM-2:30 PM or 10:30 - 6:30 PM. The role will support our  Preschool and our PreK classrooms. 

There are meetings and professional developments that may occur outside of these hours.

Rate of Pay: $16.50 an hour depending on previous experience and related education.  Weekly payroll.

  • Knowledge of best practices in working with children in an extracurricular setting
  • Strong communication abilities in one-on-one meetings and group settings,
  • Takes personal accountability for the program outcomes, and takes initiative to implement positive change in the face of challenges
Responsibilities and Duties

Major Duties and Responsibilities include:
-Provide leadership on a day-to-day basis for a class of 15 preschool students. Instructors are representatives of our agency in the school and are responsible for maintaining the culture of the school.
-Support implementation of lesson plans. Much of our planning is based on Common Core Learning Standards and takes place in the exploration of learning centers!
- Monitoring and keeping a clean space and safe at all times.
-Following the schedule provided and working closely with the lead teacher.
-Ensure student safety and attendance to the program at all times. -Instructors are role models for our students. Everyone on our team must be outstanding in adherence to policies on attendance and punctuality, dress code, and setting a tone of respect in interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and day school staff members.
-Communicate with parents when there is a concern that must be resolved. Provide excellent customer service and a professional, caring demeanor.

-All employees are eligible for the COVID vaccine now. We encourage staff to receive it. Staff who've not yet received the vaccine will ask to get tested for the virus regularly to ensure the continued safety of our learning environment. 
Qualifications and Skills

*Education and Experience:*
  • Study plan towards college graduation, HS diploma minimum. College credits are required.
  • Prior experience working with Early Childhood students.
  • Commitment to the program through the end of June 2022, a non-negotiable requirement.  The academic year 2021-2022. 
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish or Mandarin is a requirement.
Compensation: $16.50 per hour
