Tuition-funded Entrepreneurial After School Site Director

82nd Street Academics seeks a full-time Program Director. 140 students (PreK-5th grades) participate in the program. The program provides challenging homework help, lots of engagement with arts and exercise, and family engagement. The program director supervises program implementation and coordinates logistics of our partnership with the host school.

The program also includes TGIF - a tuition funded daycare program when public schools are closed. This innovation program requires planning for STEM activities, Robotics, Dance, Reader's Theater, Art, Coding, and Fun!

The hours of this position are 11am-7pm, Monday to Friday . There are bi-weekly meetings, professional development, and senior staff meetings that occur outside of these hours.

Major Duties:
-Develop a high-performance coaching team of 15 members. S/he makes informal visits to observe each classroom and quarterly appraisals. The Program Director reviews lesson plans 2 weeks in advance of implementation. The reviews ensure that Coaches empower and delight students, use the Five Forces model of 82nd Street Academics, and negotiate with the Program Director about needed supplies to implement Coach led activities.

-Create and maintain a network (Parents, School leaders, Community Leaders, etc.) - always and promptly when there is a concern that must be resolved.

-Liaise with the Department of Health, Department of Youth and Community Development, and Department of Education. S/he ensures that the program adheres to all DOH, DYCD, and DOE regulations at all times, and meets with inspectors when random visits are made.

 -Ensures that Coaches get homework complete and correct, and empower students to perform in the top third of their class..

Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field

  • At least two years of experience working with AfterSchool; at least one year in a leadership role preferred
  • Commitment to the program through the end of June 2023 is a non-negotiable requirement.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish or Bengali or Mandarin, or Tibetan and English is strongly preferred
  • Personal experience with societal barriers
Demonstrated Abilities
Knowledge of best practices in working with children in an extracurricular setting
Strong communication abilities in one-on-one meetings, in group settings, and in written communications
  • Takes personal accountability for the program outcomes, and takes initiative to implement positive change in the face of challenges

 Compensation is $70,000 - $80,000, depending on experience and training.
